Psalms

1 A Psalm of Asaph. Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone{H8804)}{H8675)}{H8803)}; my steps had well nigh slipped{H8795)}.

3 For I was envious{H8765)} at the foolish{H8802)}, when I saw{H8799)} the prosperity of the wicked.

4 For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.

5 They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued{H8792)} like other men.

6 Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain{H8804)}; violence covereth{H8799)} them as a garment.

7 Their eyes stand out{H8804)} with fatness: they have more{H8804)} than heart could wish.

8 They are corrupt{H8686)}, and speak{H8762)} wickedly concerning oppression: they speak{H8762)} loftily.

9 They set{H8804)} their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh{H8799)} through the earth.

10 Therefore his people return{H8799)}{H8675)}{H8686)} hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out{H8735)} to them.

11 And they say{H8804)}, How doth God know{H8804)}? and is there knowledge in the most High?

12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase{H8689)} in riches.

13 Verily I have cleansed{H8765)} my heart in vain, and washed{H8799)} my hands in innocency.

14 For all the day long have I been plagued{H8803)}, and chastened every morning.

15 If I say{H8804)}, I will speak{H8762)} thus; behold, I should offend{H8804)} against the generation of thy children.

16 When I thought{H8762)} to know{H8800)} this, it was too painful for me;

17 Until I went{H8799)} into the sanctuary of God; then understood{H8799)} I their end.

18 Surely thou didst set{H8799)} them in slippery places: thou castedst them down{H8689)} into destruction.

19 How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly{H8804)} consumed{H8804)} with terrors.

20 As a dream when one awaketh{H8687)}; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise{H8799)} their image.

21 Thus my heart was grieved{H8691)}, and I was pricked{H8709)} in my reins.

22 So foolish was I, and ignorant{H8799)}: I was as a beast before thee.

23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden{H8804)} me by my right hand.

24 Thou shalt guide{H8686)} me with thy counsel, and afterward receive{H8799)} me to glory.

25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire{H8804)} beside thee.

26 My flesh and my heart faileth{H8804)}: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

27 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish{H8799)}: thou hast destroyed{H8689)} all them that go a whoring{H8802)} from thee.

28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put{H8804)} my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare{H8763)} all thy works.
