Chapter 40

To the chief Musician{H8764)}, A Psalm of David. I waited{H8765)} patiently{H8763)} for the LORD; and he inclined{H8799)} unto me, and heard{H8799)} my cry.

He brought me up{H8686)} also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set{H8686)} my feet upon a rock, and established{H8790)} my goings.

And he hath put{H8799)} a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see{H8799)} it, and fear{H8799)}, and shall trust{H8799)} in the LORD.

Blessed is that man that maketh{H8804)} the LORD his trust, and respecteth{H8804)} not the proud, nor such as turn aside{H8802)} to lies.

Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful{H8737)} works which thou hast done{H8804)}, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order{H8800)} unto thee: if I would declare{H8686)} and speak{H8762)} of them, they are more{H8804)} than can be numbered{H8763)}.

Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire{H8804)}; mine ears hast thou opened{H8804)}: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required{H8804)}.

Then said{H8804)} I, Lo, I come{H8804)}: in the volume of the book it is written{H8803)} of me,

I delight{H8804)} to do{H8800)} thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

I have preached{H8765)} righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained{H8799)} my lips, O LORD, thou knowest{H8804)}.

I have not hid{H8765)} thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared{H8804)} thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed{H8765)} thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.

Withhold{H8799)} not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve{H8799)} me.

For innumerable evils have compassed{H8804)} me about: mine iniquities have taken hold{H8689)} upon me, so that I am not able{H8804)} to look up{H8800)}; they are more{H8804)} than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth{H8804)} me.

Be pleased{H8798)}, O LORD, to deliver{H8687)} me: O LORD, make haste{H8798)} to help me.

Let them be ashamed{H8799)} and confounded{H8799)} together that seek{H8764)} after my soul to destroy{H8800)} it; let them be driven{H8735)} backward and put to shame{H8735)} that wish me evil.

Let them be desolate{H8799)} for a reward of their shame that say{H8802)} unto me, Aha, aha.

Let all those that seek{H8764)} thee rejoice{H8799)} and be glad{H8799)} in thee: let such as love{H8802)} thy salvation say{H8799)} continually, The LORD be magnified{H8799)}.

But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh{H8799)} upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer{H8764)}; make no tarrying{H8762)}, O my God.
